How to Set Up PHPStan with WordPress and Visual Studio Code

Date: 03 April 2025

Hi Reader ๐Ÿ‘‹,

Happy Sunday! I hope that 2024 has been a great start for you. I dove straight into work earlier this week and have been actively working late evenings and this weekend on multiple things related to WebberZone and Beyond Develop.

How to Set Up PHPStan with WordPress and Visual Studio Code: A Step-by-Step Guide

Last year, I finally bit the object-oriented programming bug. I started to rewrite my plugins to use classes and autoloading (a tutorial on that coming this year). One of the tools I started to use was PHPStan, a static analysis tool for PHP that scans your code and detects potential errors and bugs without executing your code. Used alongside PHPCS and WordPress Coding Standards ensures that my code is even higher quality and missing obvious bugs.

Setting up PHPStan does require a few steps and if you are just starting down this road, like I was, then this tutorial will definitely be helpful to you.

I've written a step-by-step guide on installing and configuring PHPStan for WordPress projects. If you're using VS Code, my editor of choice, the tutorial will show you how to install and configure some basic settings.

An updated WebberZone plugins Demo Site

In late December, I launched the new redesign of WebberZone.com. One of the key features I added to the site is a Demo site powered by InstaWP (aff.). This demo site showcases how the various WebberZone plugins work together. I created a dummy WooCommerce store which you can browse.

If you're using any of my plugins on your site, I'd love to hear what you think about the demo. I'm continuing to work on improving the demo.

What would you like to read about?

I have plan for a series of tutorials - most of these focused on WordPress development as well as using WebberZone's suite of plugins.
